Bramhall Rangers 11 Cheadle United Thursday 4

In 1999 Jose Luis Chilavert became the first goalkeeper to score a hat-trick in the history of the game (for Velez Sarsfield against Ferro Carril Oeste). But in today's game players like Chilavert are the exception rather than the rule.” – www.goalkeepersaredifferent.com

A great display of finishing by Mini won’t be what this game will be remembered for. Despite putting Cheadle United Thursday to the sword 7 well taken goals, the game will be remembered more for one moment of history by Belly in the last 10 minutes.

The Rangers lined up looking for their first win of the Autumn 2006 season. They were perhaps expecting it in the game tonight, however they weren’t resting on their laurels as CUT had taken a surprising 3 points from Buxton Robins earlier in the season. Belly started the game in nets, with Pie, Mini, Piggy, Shiz, Nev and Fist outfield. It was hoped that with the early kick off Hedderz would be able to make a rare appearance, but a chest infection unfortunately took him out. Rascle was also still missing, with a combination of a dodgy back and some DIY keeping him away.

Games between the Rangers and CUT always seem to start slowly. The Rangers made much of the early running but couldn’t get off the mark until Mini picked up the ball on the edge of the CUT area and slotted home the first of many he would claim during the game. The Rangers were having the majority of the play, with the CUT keeper making some excellent reaction saves to keep the score down. At the other end, Belly was keeping the CUT strikers out. During the first half Mini claimed another 3 goals, though unfortunately I can’t remember exactly what happened for them, and also smashed a shot against the post!

At half time the score was 4-0 to the Rangers boys, and they could be pleased with their first half performance, though disappointed they hadn’t been more clinical.

The pre-match game plan was for Belly to swap with Fist at half time, and play a half outfield. However Belly, ever the team player, wanted the Rangers to get a little more daylight between themselves and CUT, so opted to stay in net. His moment was to come though.

The second half started, and fairly quickly from the restart CUT grabbed a goal, Pie not tracking his man quick enough. However the Rangers responded quickly with Mini grabbing another goal, this one cheekily chipped over the grounded keeper. Shortly after he picked the ball up on the edge of his own area, dribbled the length of the pitch past a couple of challenges, and into a one-on-one situation with the CUT goal keeper. He shaped to shoot, only to drag the ball across the face of the area to the waiting Pie, who calmly dispatched past the wrong footed keeper.

Another couple of CUT goals came, as well as another for Pie who managed to squeeze a shot through the keepers legs with his left foot. Mini also grabbed two more to take his total to 7 for the night, both goals well worked 1-2s with Shiz, with Shiz’s pass off the boards inch perfect for Mini to slot the ball home. Teamwork at its best!

Nev was his usual solid self at the back, not venturing forward as much as some games and never really threatened to break his goal duck which now stands at an incredible 44 games without a goal. Fist got stronger as the game wore on, and even had a chance to break his goal duck with a half-chance near the end, but couldn’t guide the ball past the keeper. Shiz was excellent, covering every inch of the pitch and working up and down the line well, unlucky not to get a goal. CUT got their final goal back, Pie again failing to track his man. Something to work on there...

Then with 10 minutes to go came the switch everyone was waiting for. Mini took over the keeper gloves, allowing Belch to finally get outfield. Immediately into the action, CUT seemed unable to cope with his quick feet. Moments after he had a chance palmed away by the keeper, he collected the ball from a Mini throw out, waited for it to roll into his path, and slotted it in the corner! Jubilation all around, as Belly scored his first goal as a Rangers player at Powerleague, and showing Fist and Nev how to do it! He quickly subbed off to take the adulation from the solitary Rangers supporter, Charlotte again making the trip to support the boys. More was to come from Belly however when, with only a few minutes remaining and back on the pitch, he skipped past a challenge to slip Piggy in, who finally managed to stick the ball in the CUT goal. It was welcome delight for the big man, who had battled all game and been denied on numerous occasions but the CUT goalkeeper. He was so sure it was going to be one of those games where nothing would go in, that he had to check to make sure the ball had gone in!

All in all a decent game from the Rangers, finally getting three points.
Good to see Belly get a run out, causing problems for the opposition and getting a goal and an assit too!

Final score: Rangers 11 Cheadle United Thursday 4
Scorers: Mini (7), Pie (2), Piggy (1), Belly (1)

Nev goal watch: 44 games
Fist goal watch: 6 games (approximate - outfield only)

Did you know?

*Pie will notch up £400 worth of Powerleague football for the Rangers this coming Thursday. Anton has relinquished a mere £15 by comparison.

*Each of Mini’s goals has cost him £2.06, whereas Nev’s single goal has cost him a whopping £230!

*The Rangers longest unbeaten streak is 3 games and has occurred 3 times in their history, between 12/01/06 - 26/01/2006 (WDW) and 11/08/05 - 25/08/2005 (WWW). The latter is also the Rangers best winning streak.

*The longest the Rangers have gone without a win is 10 games between 01/09/05 and 03/11/05 (LLLLLLDLLD).

*Three players hold the record for consecutive appearances. Mini, Pie and Nev have all at some point managed to go 19 weeks without missing a game.

*Apart from the big three (Mini, Peter and Hedderz) no other player has managed to reach double figures for goals in a season. The closest is Pie who bagged 9 in the summer 2006 season. He also scored 8 in spring 2005 as did Shiz in spring 2006.

*Hedderz holds the best goals to game ratio for the Rangers with an impressive 2.48 goals per game average.

*Despite only playing 5 games in 4 seasons, Hedderz is only 28 goals behind Peter in the all time scoring charts.

*The most impressive goals to game ration in a season was 4.67 achieved by Hedderz in the winter o5 season. He played just 3 games but scored a spectacular 14 goals.

*Outside of the big three, Lifey has the best goals to game ratio, totalling 1.18. Of the “regular" players, Pie is the 4th highest with 0.49 goals per game, reaching a peak of 0.78 in summer 05.

*Rangers have been pitted against 19 different teams in their history, and have failed to take points off 11 of them. The poorest record is against East Didsbury with 4 games played and 4 defeats.

*Rangers only positive goal difference is against Cheadle Utd (as expected!) where it is a massive +60! In a 12 game history.

*The worst goal difference is a terrible -65! Against Puss in Boots over an 11 game history.
Pie has been present for the most points the Rangers have notched up, 63 in total.

Interesting? I thought not! :)

Bramhall Ranger 5 Omatha 9

Good Morning gentleman, this report is the first to be broadcasted from my own blog. Welcome, its a first I know but I did try to log on to the Rangers site last night but the old gremlins arose. The belch family.co.uk and a blank sheet confronted me so I used my best judgement.

The game started with a quick goal from Omatha which was not the best start for a game that kicked off at 9.30pm, was cold and wet. A second goal follow and then we began to shore things up at the back and Mini score our opener. The game continued for a long time with the team defending well at keeping it at 2-1. The errors were made in conseeding goals at the back, many were mine and when they happen I always feel gutted especially when I've made more problems for other people.

I must say that the players I noticed for their effort and improvement going forward were Nev and Shiz. Nev was getting forward through the centre a lot more than his average game and he seemed to be able to control the ball better. Shiz right from the off made a darting run from Belch's throw out past two players and into the opposition corner. You battled well and managed to partner Mini for a period in the game when Peter and Mini were off the pitch.

Mark played with more skill, I little less pace than average but he made up for it with more control and positional play. He seems to not rush the passes as much. I don't know what you did to the guy on the corner but it looked to everyone like you'd punched or elbowed him in the face. I'm sure he's a nice guy and all that but well done Mark you can show me what you did on Sunday afternoon.

This was ofcourse revenage for the foul on you in the first half, thrown to the ground by that Mat (Henri) guy you faked a back injury to get one of theirs sent off and then lauched in to the next Omatha you could find.. shameful.John, I don't really know what to say but what a string of goals you seem to be massing lately, I know we've been starved of your scoring ways but 2 in one game I'm begining to wet myself. But in a good way. I'd rather be sitting in a puddle of my own urine with a few wins to our names than soiling myself over which of us gets second spot in the golden boot.

Mini, I'm not always good at this kind of thing but I did pick up that fact that if we had a proper medical you might not have past it this week. You played supurb but I think I'm right in saying your ankles were giving you some trouble. Thanks for playing on. On a lighter note we wouldn't be were we are in the league without Mini and by that I mean goal difference.

Belch, get out field.

Shiz, I've already mentioned you.

My own view is that I hope we do get a win soon as we are statistically due one very soon and I don't mean just against Cheadle. We have a good group of lads who if we play to are best we can push teams. This will not always happen in practice as players have good days and bad one. No one expects greatness just the willness to listen, learn and if nothing else work for each other. Trust is vital and that is were I feel I let people down.

But on the plus side of things I felt in the second half i was stronger and I have to mention it, that little bit of positional and close ball control that avaded 3 players before I got the shot aways was the best bit of skill I have played in a long time.I'm looking forward to next week however we play and my I say a thank you to Mini for the reports each week I do enjoy them on a Friday morning and I also agree we should take turns. Not just to give Mini a rest but because like I'm doing now it just gives us the chance to air our views and hopeful take some thought from it.

Final Score: Bramhall Rangers 5 Omatha 9
Goals: Mini (3), Pie (2)

Nev goal watch - 43
Henry felling roll over - 3 weeks
