Bramhall Rangers 8 - Puss in Boots 11

*distinct lack of football quote*

The Rangers lined up on a chilly February evening to battle against Puss in Boots. Last time we'd beaten them was an automatic win in august 2006. And this season they had already battered the rangers 17-4. Having lost 3 on the bounce, and a particularly painful loss to cheadle last week, Rangers wanted to taste blood again.

The team lined up as best it could. Our ringer wasn't able to make it, Mr T is still in retirement, and Rascle was too poor to play! And as such wielded the camera for the highlights reel. As he spent 3 hours editing the mere 12 minutes of video, this is a V brief write up! Piggy, Mini, Pie (in nets), Belly (outfield), shiz and Nev saddled up for the task in hand,

And it couldn't have been a better start! 6 minutes saw 3 goals for the rangers with no response! The goals were well taken too, with belly turning on a sixpence for the first of the game, Mini stabbing in well from close range, and Shiz following up with a deft rebound. The whole attitude to the first half was good. Good passing, lots of shots, and Pie was aptly handling goal duties. The First PIB goal had to come and it was a soft one. Piggy was indecisive with his shot and softly rolled it to the keeper. The Rangers were happy in control, and allowed the PIB striker to run right through the team and slot past Pie. After this we were unlocked. Piggy manged to get a goal in the first half, but PIB replied with 4 in quick succession. Half time was 6-4 to PIB

Second half started promisingly! Piggy shooting with power in the first 15 seconds to net his 2nd of the match! Then, despite good saves from pie, PIB got 3 in RAPID succession. Piggy and mini managed to grab a few more each to both complete hat tricks, but PIB went on to score more goals to take their tally to 11.

It was disappointing to not win this one, as we'd started so well. But once again fitness was key at the end of the match. Subbing would be left too long, and then players would be subbing every 30 seconds, meaning no-one had a break really. Belly was making a nuisance of himself outfield, Nev was solid, and Shiz was once again trying his luck everywhere. Piggy, although yelled at for his silly dancing and indecisiveness in front of the net, did well to tackle in defence and then run up to score. And mini hit the woodwork at least 5 times!

Rangers can once again feel proud in this defeat that they battled as well as they could, but will come away feeling blue at the knowledge they could have won.

Belly 1, Shiz 1, Mini 3, Piggy 3.

Well that was very cool indeed. Especially like the start! Want to watch it with sound for full effect.

I thought we played well last night and had them rattled. But for some good goalkeeping and the woodwork it would have been even closer. It was one of the best starts we have had for ages.

A couple of indicents to draw you attention to. There is a great example how not to tackle from Peter in the 2nd half (about 3:30 on the timer). Learn from this Peter.

And I watched 2:20/1:04 a few times over to massage my own ego!

Good stuff Russ, but get some sleep man! I'm sure we could have waited till today before you posted it!

:)

Just to update you on some starts and some upcoming milestones:

Player Games (Goals)
Pie 94 (55)
Peter 92 (238)
Mini 90 (133)
Shiz 82 (30)
Nev 62 (3)
Rascle 58 (10)
Belch 54 (2)

Make of that what you will!

There's a quality moment 2.20minutes ish to go in the first half when one of the PIB players just bounces of Nev.

More analysis to come from me later, but great stuff, amazing scenes!

Well done Russ on editing this. It looked great.

My thoughts on last night are that we gave Puss in Boots a score 2, get 1 free deal. A bit of a shame really but still a good match.

Puss in boots are really, really good at 1-2's. We need to get better at defending them as there is a tendency sometimes to think that because the player your marking has just passed the ball you can take a breather. Puss in boots ruthlessly exploit this.

Overall a great game, though I don't think Mini realised that he's only playing for the Rangers. With flair like that he should consider a move to LA Galaxy or whatever they're called.
